The Challenge Program
The Challenge program is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The charitable mission of the organization is to build sustainable Business/Education partnerships while introducing students to careers in their communities. This partnership contributes to workforce and economic development by motivating students to develop the solid work habits required to succeed in school and in their future careers. The Challenge Program achieves this goal by relying on business in the local community to sponsor and support academic achievement in surrounding high schools.
The Challenge Program boasts many accomplishments since its original founding more than ten years ago. The program has been introduced to more than 465,000 students.During the 2013/14 school year, the program was presented to approximately 61,000 students in 120 high schools and has awarded more than $3 million to high school students.
The Challenge Program has been endorsed by several high growth industries and received major grant support from the Benedum Foundation, the Richard King Mellon Foundation, PNC Charitable Trust Foundation, and the EQT Foundation.
Over the last several years The Challenge Program has become interested in duplicating the success it has enjoyed in its home state of Pennsylvania by reaching out to other states, school districts and local business communities.
