Richard Scott Draughon is the President, founder and Chief Executive Counsel for Draughon - Attorneys at Law, one of the leading technology law practices in the nation. Scott handles high technology matters involving the internet, software, hardware, multimedia and telecommunications. He also maintains a traditional intellectual property practice providing copyright, trademark and patent legal services.

Scott established his law practice in 1989, several years after completing his Juris Doctor and LL.M. degrees from the George Washington National Law Center. He earned his B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of North Florida and is a native of Jacksonville. He has been instrumental in supporting the development of an intellectual property law program at the University of Florida College of Law where he has served as an adjunct professor. In addition to more than seventeen years representing technology clients, Scott has been an outspoken advocate for government policies and legislation favoring the technology industry. He participated on the Advisory Board of Empower America, the nation’s foremost pro-growth free market policy action organization. Scott is also an active participant of The Heritage Foundation, a research and educational institute for formulating and advocating conservative public policies. He frequently contributes articles addressing legislative initiatives affecting the technology industry and has been quoted and published in the Miami Herald, the Orlando Sentinel, the Florida Times-Union, St. Petersburg Times and the Tallahassee Democrat as well as the Baltimore Sun, the Standard Examiner and the Information Executive (a monthly newsletter for the Association of Information Technology Professionals).

Scott is also the founder of MyTechnologyLawyer.com, an online interactive resource for technology law services. The site was launched on March 8, 2001 and provides extensive free legal advice on technology law issues, as well as industry news updates, access to a national network of technology lawyers as well as forms, instructions and video supporting complete contract templates for more than 200 technology transactions.
